In June of 2000, Benan (AKA Mike Davis) received his first drum as a gift from Aslahan. He took to it immediately, and has been learning and playing ever since.
Benan first started learning from websites, such as Kamuran's Guide for Doumbek Players, and Quick and Dirty Guide to the Doumbek.
Benan began studying with Mike Gregian in 2001, and continues to do so to this day.
Benan began studying with Karim Nagi Mohammed at the New England Conservatory in 2003. He took "Arabic Rhythm and Hand Percussion" during the Spring semester of 2003. In 2004, he registered for another semester with Karim.
Over the years, Benan has played with numerous musicians. Some of the more notable musicians include Turgay Erturk, Mehmet Sanlikol, Walid Zairi
Since 2005, Benan has been playing with Skordalia.
